Re: The Anti-Gear attitude

Well, at least you are consistent. You can't really argue that you
deliberately made *** up to make your (weak) position look stronger.
It's called a straw man. You have no grounds for being negative, so
you invent positions I never took and then argue against them. It's
similar to what Bush does when he says "Well, heh, some people
out there think that people of color in the Middle East can't live
in a democracy. I reject that." It makes him look a little less like
an idiot to some, even though no one is arguing against him.
That's exactly what you've done. In two posts, you made some ***
up that I didn't say, and then argued against it.<<<

You lost me there....me & dubya okay.

First of all lighten up.
Re: Frisell...I like him alot, don't love everything he's done but I like
his thing alot.
I like your thing also but that's not what this is about.

So what I'm supposed to go back and post stuff you wrote...okay I'll play
for a little while.

I think a lot of the
members here, not all, but many, are more interested in a
certain kind of generic guitar playing that focuses on lines
over changes.<<<

Okay so I think that's sort of stereotyping the group & I might agree but,
"many, are more interested in a
certain kind of generic guitar playing that focuses on lines
over changes." What can I say, you wrote it & true or not that's a way broad
generalization of the group. You call it an observation okay.

Someone like Friz who plays texturally, never
flashy fauxbop stuff, tends to get overlooked. But his sense
of harmony and timbre is basically unparalleled today on
the guitar<<<

I dunno, again I like his thing... there's folks with as good a sense of
timbre out there though for sure. That's an observation.

save for Jim Hall. He's a complete musician with
a voice, but most people are looking for something they can
transcribe and regurgitate.<<<

I dunno, " but most people are looking for something they can
transcribe and regurgitate." Well...that's an interesting statement. An
observation yes but I think your stereotyping guitarists or most folks or
whoever you're referring to.

Wow. Yeah, it's funny how almost anytime I say something
that it's any way controversial, someone will invariably come
in and accuse me of something I didn't do.
My usual contention
is that if it wasn't true, people wouldn't feel so threatened by it<<<

I can honestly say for myself, I am so not threatened by any of these
statements.
You've got an interesting style on the internet is all...I'm not talking
about your tunes either. That's an observation.
