Thanks for your advice, Jeanmi. I must admit, though, that I don't
think I can afford to be so uncompromising. Except for the rare
occasion where I've sat in with a pro from out of town, I don't think
I've ever played with anyone who I like 100%, musically. In fairness,
I certainly could not fulfill 100% of anyone's expectations of a jazz
guitar player.
A truly sublime drummer (even if one existed in the backwater town I
live in) would probably not want to stoop to playing with someone at my
skill level. I guess I didn't make it very clear that I'm not very
good, or very experienced. I've played maybe 60 jazz gigs in my whole
life, and as this thread shows, I am still working on very basic issues
related to achieving my modest potential in a performance setting.
