I hate to date myself but I saw that group, Astrud et al, at the original
Birdland.Steve Swallow was playing acoustic bass instead of Gene Charico
though.( I can't believe that I'm still doing this but I played two hip gigs
tonight so I guess I can get a few more years in.) They played opposite
Horace Silver who was incredible. Bud Powell played his last engagement
before he died opposite Horace at that timealso(they staggered the groups
back then).I caught that one too.
