Re: Clarus 2R Series III -- preview review

Hello Dave,
Yes, I'll be upgrading from an original Clarus series one with the tone
mods.
My original intention was to sell off the series one along with my S12,
keeping the new series III and the S10-ER. Of course, that was before I read
your post about using the new unit's stereo output along with your original
Clarus as a slave amp. I'm a real sucker for stereo in the home environment,
looks like I'll have to find another way to finance the new purchase.
I'll drop you a note letting you know what I think.
Regards, Frank

I think you'll love it Frank. The Murchs are great guys. I bought one of
the Polytone heads from them a few years back and hung out with them at the
Long Island show that year.

Didn't you have an earlier Clarus? The III gets improved sound. The
improvement doesn't blow you out of the chair, but it's there. The more
highs in your system, the more you'll appreciate it.

Let me know what you think.

Dave

Here are some excerpts from my review just finished for JJG:

Same great sound as the SL-R with the following changes:

Power output:

250W 8ohm

400W 4ohm

500W 2ohm

New powder coated aluminum chassis

Slanted control panel

White push buttons replace hard to see black buttons.

Chorus, Delay and Flanger added to reverb effects

New gig bag with all-metal hardware and less coarse fabric

2 combo inputs XLR & ¼", both with phantom power

Stereo preamp operation, for instance, allowing splitting of a vocal and
instrument, but requiring either a separate power amp or powered slave
cab

Treble control range increased to +-25dB from +-15dB increase tonal
flexibility much.

Brite control dropped

Power cable gets locking a Neutrik Speakon connector on the amp end

Sound is great, just like the SL-R. Did I mention the power? If 500W
isn't enough, you can order the 1,000W Focus.

Read the may issue of JJG for the full review.

Dave
