Re: The Flu



Wanna know more about the flu...I just finished "The Great Influenza"
by John M. Barry.
It's chock full of info about a time when every able bodied man in the
US between 18 and
45 that wasn't working in the war effort at home was draft eligible and
how the survivors of
mustard gas and trench warfare returned to the US to die from flu they
got at the Army barracks etc.

Another good one by John Barry is "Rising Tide"...all about the 1927
Mississippi River flood and the politics of how the levees got to be
built when the 3 experts on the river at the time
agreed on one thing, that the committee that decided about the levees
was wrong. This book points out that the levees still have never been
built to accomodate a flood of the
magnitude of the 1927 flood.
