Tell me about old Gibson amps

I bought a supposedly 1953 mint condition Gibson 6 guitar amplifier for
$400 at the Orlando guitar show. It's light and portable and has
adequate power for small group situations.

Sounds O.K. to me when used with my Eastman 810 or Ibanez GB200
archtops, although I would like a tad of Reverb to color the tone,
which this amp doesn't have.

But I am curious about Gibson amps. Why are they not so popular? Does
Gibson still make Gibson amps? Is $400 a good buy for this amp?
