Wow, let me comiserate with you guys.

The following is a sad story of one tooth.Of course it's because is a
front 1-1 tooth, else I would have yanked the sucker out and be done
with it.

First off, it gets a root canal. Dentist does not clear out infection
totally, so it begins to die. 1992
Price=600
Second dentist does not see the infection and proceeds to do a crown
for it.1995
Price=1000
Third dentist says there is infection, and needs repair.
Insured
Endodontist says two teeth need repair, and proceeds to destroy the
crown, and then says that he will have to sever the nerves thru the gum
(for two teeth not just the 1-1) 1997
Price=2100 (some insurance)
Fourth dentist proceeds to install a new crown for the one the
Endodontist destroyed.
Price=1200 (some insurance) 2002
Second crown breaks, as the tooth base itself is cracked.
Oral surgeon install implant wich takes 6 months, for the entire
procedure.
Price= 3800 (insurance only pays for anesthetics! sheesh) 2005

Talk about bad luck and pain for one tooth, that has now cost me almost
9K  :(

	No fair, that's really 2 teeth!
	Sorry--that's really too bad. Hope the implant works out.

Your gonna scold me doc, but the first time I ever went to a dentist in
my life was at the age of 6 as it was required for my medical to enter
1st grade.

The second time I ever went to a dentist was at the age of 46 because
my wife felt I should go due to a chipped molar.

The dentist took an XRay, I got a cleaning, and he smoothed the chip.
Upon leaving he said you got some good teeth there other than the
cracked one, no cavities, and your roots go quite deep and are full.
He could not believe I had not seen a dentist in 40 years. Through my
30's I just let my wisdom teeth come in naturally, just some minor
discomfort for the year they were coming in. My wife is sick of
hearing me (brag) tell people this story. After hearing about these
bills, maybe I owe myself a 175 or something.

I don't recommend you use that rationale with your wife--even if she has good teeth.
