Bireli was just as amazing when I saw him with Vic Juris about 14 years
ago, but is much more consistently great now. Now, he's like
untouchable. Back then, when he was on, he was, but he wasn't always
on at that super level.
If I recall correctly from the time you mentioned Krief last time, he
must have been disgusted that Bireli played one of the most amazing
solos ever played on the cut he was featured on!
Luc can hang with Bireli because he's doing his own thing and is
equally wonderful. He's one of the greatest guitarists in the world as
well.
Also, on the DVD, Bireli's solos are so inventive, not just fast.
Angelo Debarre breaks a string on the DVD but is truly phenomenal as
well. I love the extra stuff on the DVD and the backstage jamming.
Those Schmidt guys really swing like crazy too. What a DVD chock full
of good stuff. I wish Jimmy Rosenberg was on that DVD.
This "Hungaria" video is a nice example of Bireli's current playing.
