Did you use the EQ settings recommended specifically for the direct recording. I noticed they have 3 simulated microphone position settings. ie at the cone, 1/2 way between cone and speaker edge and speaker edge.

they have such settings, but I didnt use them. I'm really planning to use this for gigs, not for computer recording, and I thought the mic placement feature would add a layer of complexity as I try to dial in sounds that I can use. In particular, they have lots of stereo efects that sound pretty good through the headphones, but since I wont use them with an amp, I dont have the patience tomess with them.

Also, I didnt use the USB recording interface, I just took the FX output to the line in on the computer. I installed the "cubase LE" software they give you with the unit, but it seems way too complicated to me. If I find a way to use the USB output with audacity I'd probably do that.

A friend and I joke that they missed the most common mike position we see in use (ie microphone hanging over the speaker cabinet aimed at the floor) :-)

Here's a clip of my new toy. I think I'll be able to part with the other pedals soon.

in order the patches are

1. no effect (with Joey's caveat from earlier today)
2. Reverb with a bit of chorus and EQ, through a fender model
3. autowah
4. parallel fifths
5. Overdrive: I'm trying to recreate scofield's sound but I'm not really close
6. Fuzz/octave: I like this for a freebop soudn. its a modification of a preset they claim is inpired by J. Beck from "wired"
7. same as 2, but with single note instead of chords, and the tone rolled off a bit.

The set up is heritage johny smith to the FX box, then to the line in on the computer. The playing is bad, even for me: I keep dropping beats, etc. to caveat emptor.

I'll take any advice anybody has. I've never owned such a device before.
