As a matter of fact MOST discussions are pointless. Petty and Caccioppo's
ELM model of persusion (do a Google it) is very clear on that. Discussions
invariably focus on high involvement matters in which participants follow
central routes of persasion, have strongly entrenched attitudes that are
almost impossible to change. The chance of attitude change in a discussion
is therefore MINIMAL and IMHO pointless. By the way, this is science, not
opinion.
So yes, discussions between highly involved participants with made-up minds
and opposite views are pointless and a waste of time.
