Thanks, Greg!
That Satin Doll take was after a few cups of coffee... hahaha!
Actually, I was really into trying to walk a swinging bass line, and it
just came out that fast.
I took some private lessons in high school (which is now 20 years
ago!!!) from Joe Monk. Then, I spent the rest of the time playing
blues and rock, and spent a few years working on chops and speed in a
rock context (trying to become a shredder).
After getting sick and tired - and frustrated - seeing that there are
SO MANY guys who can shred on rock guitar, I wanted to do something
different, and got really into jazz about two or three years ago (which
was literally the first time I had ever heard Joe Pass!). But I had to
start almost from scratch. So the arrangements are my own (I wish they
were better!). I'm still into working on speed and getting a nice,
fluid single-note thing like Holdsworth and Gambale, but I really enjoy
the chord-melody approach, so I have plenty of things to keep me busy
practicing, and I still have a long way to go.
Thanks for the compliments which, especially on this forum, are most
appreciated!
Tom
