Practice, practice, practice.
Well, after nearly 25 year of being in business it looks
like I
will be joining the regular work force looking for work. I
was
just notified that I will be losing my biggest contract
after
the first of the year and that will put me out of
business.
Now I need to figure out how to get a job in this day and
time.
One of the things I may have in my corner is that I won't
be
that picky. I ain't looking to set the world on fire
anymore.
Just a job with a few benefits to get me through the next
10
years.
I guess I will start by putting off that new guitar
purchase for
Christmas that I was planning.
David
I can empathise with you and Steve, having been over-age
and
jobless myself in the previous major Oz recession. I now
count
myself lucky that I have a job I enjoy within walking
distance of
home, even it isn't well paid and has no security.
Good luck in your search.

Yep, it kinda sucks. When aerospace went to hell I
went into real estate which was pretty good until
this last year. Being over 50, educated and
looking for work is no fun. Just had an HR type
acquaintance tell me that a history of being self
employed doesn't help your chances either.
Hmmm, I wonder how a 57 year old uneducated person like me
will
fare. Maybe I had better practice "Welcome to Wal-Mart. Get
yer
shit and get out".
Having been self employed for so long could be a big problem
for me.
I'm already having problems thinking of business references.
When
you run a janitorial service you have contracts come and go
but they
rarely end on such a positive note that you would feel
comfortable
using them as a reference. The last real job I tried was
working as
a tax preparer for H&R Block for a couple of tax seasons in
the
early 90's.
David,
So why not keep looking for more jobs as what you do best????

I guess I'm just flat tired of cleaning toilets and dealing
with
people who look for other peoples work to complain about
instead of
trying to do their own job well. Tired of people who want their
work
space to look like you spent all night on it to make every
thing
perfect even tho you are getting paid to spend only a few
minutes.
Tired of people who look for things to complain about because
they
have a friend or family member out of work and want to get you
fired
so their friend can have your job.
As you can see, I'm burned out on this particular vocation.
David
I'm sure sorry to hear you're losing your anchor client, David.
And I hope this will shake out as a change for the positive for
you.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I am ready for a change but I will always have the option
of kick starting my business back up again if I have to. This is
obviously not the best time to do this but I will give it a try and
see.
David
