I haven't been able to log onto the internet for 3 days, but my email and

After spending 2 hours on the phone with a tech from my ISP, he's

How the hell do I do that?

It's fairly tough to download a new program when you can't get online.
You must have dyed your hair blonde!
Do you have access to any other computers? Someone else's computer?
One at the office or something? If so, download Firefox on that other
computer and save the install file onto a USB drive (you can get a 2GB
USB thumb drive for about $8 these days), then take it to your
handicapped computer and install it. Part of the install process will
involve that install program getting more stuff from the internet, but
you said you could access the internet from other programs (usenet,
etc.) so it will probably be okay.
