the truth is I respect the knowledge and experience of the people here
so
I am asking a question about some decisions I am trying tomake

I had amolar extracted due to no longer being able to take a filling
so now I have options

root canal and capping adjacent teeth and installing a bridge

Not root canal but extract a second molar and get implants

not bother replacing the missing tooth and capping other teeth as needed

I have no dental insurance option 1 is about 3000$
option 2 is about 6000$

option 3 is about 1500$

I am asking those who have made decisions like this and how your
decision
affected your quality of life, as well as how durable your solution
proved to be

Thank you
George

If it were I, option 3 would be the one.

I had just that situation a couple of years ago. I adjusted to the loss
of
the tooth just fine, and only have to be careful when eating peanuts.

Loss of a molar is no big deal. Use the extra money for something else.

My feelings exactly. I had one out a few years ago (after the
obligatory "How attached to this tooth are you? joke) It just left a
gap behind my smile. NBD.

If it was a front one, I'd prolly spring for the bridgeworl, but
seeing as I still have 7 molars left it's just one less to floss..

What a great excuse to say I drank my dinner!

I had a weird time with that extraction. The nurse gave me a shot so
big I nearly fainted - had to sit up and ask for water (I guess she
knew what she was going to have to resort to in order to get the tooth
out), but she didn't hve the strength to get the tooth out, so she
called for a consultant, and there was a little discussion about
cutting my jaw open and the guy said "I know what!" and went to a
cabinet on the wall which looked like it was full of mountaineering
equipment - all that was missing was the ropes.

He removed a large pointy thing which looked like it had previously
been used for cracking dry ice in an Alaskan fishery, violently stuck
the pointy end in the soft tissue in the tooth and gave it a wrench -
about 75 seconds between choosing his weapon and relieving me of the
rotten tooth.

Fortunately it came out absolutely clean - just one soluble stitch. He
said "Don't drink or smoke for 48 hours."

Yeah right...the dental hospital is opposite a pub. Neat vodka
apparently kills all known germs..:-)
