I think the key word is "necessary". I was for taking out the Taliban
in Afghanastan but I was against going into Iraq when we did because
we would be fighting wars on two fronts when it was not necessary.

Saddam would still be alive and killing Kurds if he had complied with the
UN sanctions, inspections and offers to leave. We know he lied and
stonewalled to keep Iran at bay. I'm not pleased with having to go back
in there, it should have been resolved back in '91.

As far as in this country goes, how much of our rights do you think it
will be necessary for us to give up so the Government can keep us safe
from those suitcase nukes? I would not call any attack "acceptable"
but how far are you willing to go with the "any means necessary"?

David

It boggles my mind that you seem to think there's some acceptable level
of death and destruction, required in advance, to justify acting.

It boggles my mind that you think I believe that.

What rights and protections have you given up? I'd be willing to bet
that you, David, have not changed what you say, where you go, who you
associate with and what you think, one iota. You are tracked, recorded,
photographed and interrogated every day. You are in Gov't and private
databases. Technology killed "privacy" a long time ago.

You are correct. I have not had any problems yet. But I believe there
have been more than a few that have. We have already had that argument
about innocent folks being tortured. I believe it and you don't.

As far as your last question goes, do we wait until a nuke is detonated
here and then act or do we initiate steps to prevent it, if we believe
there's a threat? Taking the first punch is no longer noble, it just
gets a very large number of people killed.

Steve Hawkins

Then the question still remains. How far do we let our government go
to protect us?
