Harolsd,
You're probablt right, but I was under the impression that she knew
she was being considered for the VP spot. She could have just looked
up the VP's responsibilities online.
One of them, as George Bush senior is reputed to have said is to
attend the funerals of dignitaries, saying. "You die, I fly,"

Let's assume that she didn't make that comment.
It's just a matter of time before she starts making blunders on the
campaign trail unless she is really well managed. Not because she is a
woman (why didn't McCain pick Christy Todd Whitman if he was trying to
get the women;s vote?), but because she seems to shoot from the hip
and isn't all that well informed. I still can't believe her words in
that interview a couple of months ago in which she professed no
knowledge of the job of the VP. Just give her time.

She said something about not knowing what the VP does on a daily
basis; I don't remember the exact quote.
I don't think anybody knows what the responsibilities of the VP are on
a daily basis. The VP gets to be president under certain
circumstances that cannot be reliably predicted, gets to cast the
deciding vote in the Senate in case of a tie, and gets to be
"President of the Senate." I don't think that any VP has served much
time as "President of the Senate," it seems to be a duty almost
entirely ignored. So, that's it. Any authority that the VP has, any
policy or executive responsibilities (except, perhaps, other than over
the VP's staff) are derived from the President and have been
traditionally largely ceremonial. In other words, the duties of the
VP are about as clearly defined as the duties of the first lady.
My impression, when I first heard the remark she made, was that she
was characterizing the VP job much in the same way as John Nance
Garner when he said that the job was "not worth a bucket of warm spit
[piss]."
There are lots of good reasons to criticize Palin, I don't think this
is one.
