I run the whole gamut from cynical to committed. Also, I love the
humor in politics from Mark Twain and before to the Daily Show and
Colbert.
The challenge in arguing politics is trying not to be hypocritical.
And I find that if I see someone making a real jerk of himself, I am
more likely to jump in the fire and start flaming back. This NG is
mild compared to some I've seen and I am glad for that, btw.
Even tho I post quite a bit, I get a little nervous posting in
political threads on this NG because no one here knows me. A lot of
you folks have met each other many times and have developed true
friendships and can argue like brothers and still come out friends. I
think it is different for an unknown and I could easily develop a
nasty reputation (maybe I already have with some) and I might wind up
alienate a bunch of people that I would rather have as friends.

I don't think anyone has any real enemies here, or any real animosity
for anyone else. You get the odd bit of back channel stuff but in the
real world it's "Thanks, I'll have a Sam Adams" and just play yer
guitar.

The trick, of course, is to get thee to a gathering and meet everyone.

Yes, that is the trick.

Of course, being "Shy Picker", it is something I look forward to doing
someday and also something I dread, LOL!

David

David, no one is as scared of getting up and playing in front of people
as I am (and I have a good reason for not wanting to play in front of
people). It was my third TX gathering before I got brave enough to do
it. Now I can't wait for a gathering and the chance to play in front of
people, I'm still scared and don't play very well, but I've never had
such support from a group of people. It is hard to get mad at someone
you've gotten to know personally and have played music with or even had
a beer with and shared a story or two. It's not too late to make it to
the TX-9, come on down share a story, have a beer, and play in front of
a bunch of good people.

Thanks, Dwight.

I really would put my fears aside and make it if I could. Usually,
after about a half an hour with a guitar in my hands, Shy Picker
dissapears. I am pretty shy but I poke fun at it.

And I would love to spend some time in Texas. There's lots to see down
there. I could spend months and not see all I would want too.

But, with my wife's head injury, (six years ago as of yesterday) that
long of a trip would be out of our comfort zone right now. And I never
leave her alone or trust someone else to take care of her for long
periods of time. Shoot, I'm probably making it sound worse and more
depressing than it is. It's mostly that we would have to drive and it
would be two days each way and that's more than we want to try right
now. I know she would really enjoy the music too as long as she had a
nice comfy place to sit and chat between songs. And she makes friends
real easy.

But someday, somewhere, I do want to give it a try.

David

David,

You make "Give it a try" like it's some kind of challenge. Nothing
could be further from the truth.

You fetch up with a guitar (and you don't really even need one of
those - there's always plenty) and relax.

Perfect!

Pete
