Ok. I'm thinking about doing something truly insane. Driving across
the country with my cats. I need to spend more time in Florida, but I
don't want to leave my cats for a month. So is this doable? How long
does it take? (I drive like the speed limit is a suggestion of where
to start). Or is this a totally crazy idea?

How well do your cats deal with car travel?  I've done it before, and
it was NOT a pretty sight.  I've met a few cats whose people claimed
that they enjoyed riding.  I've never lived with a cat that didn't
find it to be torture.

I agree there. I had to take someone else's cats on a ten hour ride
during a house move. They were so petrified, they crapped constantly
through the journey. Even with the windows rolled down, and regular
stops to clean the cages out, I gagged and choked the whole way and
both the car and I stunk of cat *** for a long time afterwards.

The cats got back to normal rather quicker.
