It would be interesting to hear from some of the women who post/lurk
here about what they think.

I sometimes wonder if all politics is a sort of male construct - look
at the bull*** going on with Russia about a new cold war - really,
what rot.

Women probably see this *** on the news and think "What a load of
bollocks", and they'd be right. There's plenty of women who read this
group - Betsey, Brenda, Shirl, Deb Cowan, Suze...they never post
anything in the threads about politics, guns, religion...y'know, all
the important stuff.

Does this mean that we men are wasting our time, or that the women
have just got their priorities right and are happy to let us all make
arses of ourselves?

Pete, shame on you. You think all the "important stuff" is the
perogative of men... and I've just been sitting home knitting? :)

I haven't posted much lately. But I DO read the group when I can. I
hate to jump in after having been absent from the group for months...
especially with a topic as hot as this. As you may recall, my initial
entry into RMMGA was not the most favorable one. :) I also hate
jumping in right in the middle of a thread, but I see it is 104
entries long and I haven't the energy to read all of them. So
possibly I'm missing some important points. But on a rainy night in
South Florida, with a 3 day weekend looming ahead and ALL my work
done, I finally have time to sit down. So what the heck. You asked,
I'm answering...

You know what I think? I have been glued to CNN for two days now, in
total shock. And I NEVER watch TV. I don't know what I'm more
shocked about... Gustav barreling towards New Orleans, or Palin. I am
more stunned than I've been in a LONG time. There is part of me that
wants to be ecstatic. Because as far as I'm concerned, hopefully this
is the death knell for the Republican Party and McCain has handed the
election to Obama. But... I am also fearful. Because I know how
stupid the American public can be.

Is McCain THAT idiotic that he actually thinks all the disenfranchised
Hillary voters are going to run out and vote now for Palin because she
is female? What a patronizing and insulting stance! Sarah Palin is
about as far to the right as one can get. A feminist she is not.
There is not ONE intelligent woman I know... not ONE (and believe me,
there have been lots of phone calls and discussions these past few
days as we've ALL been stunned)... who isn't stunned at this choice.
He may as well have selected Anita Bryant as his running mate. If any
of the women I know had been considering voting for McCain, this
certainly clinches it for Obama.

Here is what I know right now about Sarah Palin:

She has had only a year and a half of experience as a governor.
Before that, she was mayor of a small town. (Oh, but wait... she DID
run the PTA, so that gives her the experience she needs to run this
country, right?) She has ZERO national and international experience.
She is VEHEMENTLY anti-choice, even in the case of rape or incest.
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in
2000. She thinks creationism should be taught in public schools. She
doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change, and consistently
votes against the environment. She does not care about protecting our
natural resources.

Need I say any more? McCain is 72 years old and has had health
problems. If he is elected, and something happens to him... I shudder
and cringe when I think about what might happen. God help us all.

Does that answer your question?

Best,

Arlene
