So whats next if I sing your song in my car and someone hears me do I need
to cut you a check. Looks like to me the aritist would be proud that someone
liked their song enough to sing it. Joe Blow on YouTube didn't make a dime
by putting a cover on his channel yet you expect him to send someone like
say Prince and his lawyers some cash. Like the million he made off the song
to start with wasn't enough. The music industry is gonna shoot its own foot
off if its not careful. The general public is already getting bilked by
format changes and the likes of Apple who restrict your use of a song that
you just paid top dollar for. I can only agree with having to buy the rights
if the cover artist is making cds of the song or selling the cover or its
form for profit. This whole copyright deal makes me want to stop purchasing
music of any kind, gets under my skin a bit, wont be long and we will have
to pay per song to listen to the radio. Making thing worse for the general
public is not healthy for the music industry, hearing someones song makes a
person want to go buy that song. For instance I have recently purchased 3
songs that I heard on Youtube by a non professional that I didn't and
wouldn't have known about. One was the song Falling Slowly for example,
which I am now learning on Guitar. Anyway enough for now, not looking for a
fight here but someone needs to take a stand for the general public that
loves to listen, sing and play music, you know the people that will be
buying YOUR MUSIC!

I agree that if you just cover the song and are not trying to make money
off
of it then calling it stealing is a reach. And many times I have seen
someone cover a song on YouTube and then go straight to Apple and buy the
real song. So its really a free advertisment to their work!
Brad
No it's not a reach. It's pretty simple. If it's not yours you have to get
approval to use it..
YouTube is a sewer of non-compliance. If all the copyright infringements
were
taken off YouTube, it'd be what about 10% of its currrent size?
So, Brad, tell us what you do and lets see how you feel about us using the
efforts of your labor anyway we want to and without compensation.

Ty Ford
