I think Heston is deserving of respect for his acting work and as a man of principles. I don't have to (and do not) agree with these principles.
He was by his own design the head of the NRA, and it's perfectly legitimate to remember this, and vehemently disagree with his stated goals.
There is a problem with reducing a man or woman to a symbol, but that's what's being done here.
I was pleased to read that early in his career he was a civil rights activist. And then just to think of the people he worked with--in just the Ten Commandments! Where's ya precious Moses now?!
