My younger daughter Ginger (15) has become a singer/songwriter - I've
watched her progress over the last couple of years... This weekend I
saw her take that to the stage for the first time - performing an
original song - solo in a small packed theater setting. OF COURSE I
can't be objective (doting, proud dad), but this was the most amazing
experience for me. I wonder if others here have experienced similar?
She did great, got loads of acknowledgment from friends and classmates
- none of them even knew she sang or played. I felt like I saw the
world, her world forever change.

I know the feeling, Richard. I bought my daughter a guitar when she
was a junior in high school, taught her how to play, and then watched
as she just took off from there. She had written a song within 3
months of starting to play. She's now married, but still gigging out
in Utah. But before she left the nest a few years back, she asked me
to open for her at a local coffee house. Having not done that sort of
thing in over 25 years, I practiced every night for a month before the
show so I wouldn't embarrass her. Opening for my daughter remains one
of the great thrills of my life. And when we did three songs
together, including one I had written thirty years earlier, it was
hard to keep from tearing up. If we are lucky in life, every once in
awhile a gift we give our children comes back to us in amazing ways.
Thanks for sharing your story, Richard.
