I changed strings today from 13s to 11s and heard a pop when I put tensionHi Doug,
of the big E string. I noticed a chip came off the ivory saddle just where
the string bends up from the pin. The string now rests in the divet where
the chip came out.
Questions:
1) It seems to me this saddle is glued in. Is replacing a glued saddle
intrusive? I have the option to return the guitar in the 30 day trial
window and don't want to settle for a hack job should I keep the guitar.
2) Has anyone seen this happen before?
3) How much is the sound/value of the guitar affected by this blemish?
I don't believe that anyone has asked if you have the
"chip."
If so, you might play the guitar as it is. If you are happy
with the sound (and I suspect based upon your description
that you will find no change), consider putting the chip
back with a dab of "crazy glue."
It will look like new, and you will have the sound you want.
All the best,
