Someone on rmmgj bought this and concluded IIRC that it was a neat but fairly limited trick.

That would be me. Also Jack Zucker got a copy. It's an interesting technique, actually, and I think I'd be a lot more interested in it if my primary focus were steel-string acoustic. In order to do it you have to get with a thumbpick. George uses a Herco, which is a "regular" shaped flatpick attached to a thumb-pick "ring" if you will. I had one of those laying around that I had tried briefly, so gave it a shot. Otherwise I think the technique works just fine with an average thumbpick.

For those with a fair ability to pick alternately between thumb and index, and thumb/index/middle, this might be a way to expand their approach.

The problem I had with the materials was mostly the limited musical way he presents the material. He just shows a bunch of repetitive licks, where one can use the technique. But not very musical. I think he should have been a bit more expansive in various ways to use the picking technique. I think it has a lot of possibilities.

As an old line goes, any book with a single good trick is with the price.

I'd be very interested to hear your opinions in more detail. I thought about buying the DVD but I think it's only available in NTSC, so possibly no good for us this side of the pond (although maybe my dvd drive will play it OK, I have no idea).

I spent a lot of time last year exploring Japanese film, much of it available only from European sources and in PAL mode. I got the impression at that time that most of you guys yonder could play both formats in your machines. Maybe you could borrow a NTSC disk from someone, perhaps a video-rental store, to find out if it would work.
