Uh, maybe you have heard of Montana and Wyoming cowboys??

  Consider

that Montana and Oregon are contiguous states.

Actually, Idaho might disagree with this statement, Hans.

  Think about it. Then

ask your son's/daughter's teacher what this means.  Bonanza the TV
show you were raised watching took place in Virginia City NV, a few
hundred miles from western OR. Did you think that "the west" was
describing TX? Consult a map.

You are right about the rest, though.  Although much of Bonanza took
place/was shot near Lake Tahoe, Virgina City was where the boys went
when they "went to town." When we sold our cows, the auction was in Reno.

Remember "The Big Valley?"  California.

Yes, I was overlooking Idaho in my zealous defense of the Montana and
Wyoming. Sorry for the slight to Idahoans and thanks for setting me
straight. My wife's uncle was a Montana rancher and she has
fascinating memories of visiting him as a teen.

I got to stay on a ranch in Montana. They had a lot of cattle and also grew
sugar beet and other crops.

I also got to go out on a horse and see them round up cattle etc. I was not
too comfortable in the saddle around those beasts in just jeans and a
T-shirt with no chaps or boots - so many big cows with their calves - many
with big horns all around me. I had my leg in the air a couple of times or
it would have been ripped off.

These were not Texas style Longhorn cattle, but looked a bit like English
Herefords - except I swear they were a lot bigger and a lot wilder and
wilder looking than our local cows.

I was walking bowlegged and sore the next day too ! The drive south after
that over the mountains and into Wyoming and the Yellowstone plateau was
unforgettable. The USA has some truly stunning country.
