Re: Gibson to merge

It isn't as sad as it was in the late 60s when they were bought out and stripped by a bunch of South American cattle barons.

It's just how business works, actually. The original guy, Orville, sold his name and a few oddball designs to a bunch of guys who knew how to run a real business. At that point 'Gibson' became a real company and produced some interesting instruments. The Norlin years were of course a disaster for both the company and retail customers. The current owners have made some improvements and have had their moments of silliness the same as any other corporate entity. If the owners have decided they have had enough, or that they can improve their own lot in life or the performance of their company, that is their decision to make. It's theirs. They paid for it and have run it according to their own best judgement.

It may be that the Danes will bring something to the table which enables Gibson to flourish for another hundred years or so. In that case it won't be sad at all, but a necessary and positive development in the life cycle of a manufacturing company.

I'm very happy for the life cycle of the manufacturing company. I hope they can still get that gibson sound out of a guitar made in the far east.
