beanie, I'd say I'm not convinced (some, not all by a looong shot) medical
professionals don't let financial considerations (read that as "greed")
guide their advice.
I'm assuming that a medical professional who tells me I shouldn't have
things done by him, or anyone else, is not being motivated by greed!
The presence of financial criteria in decision making about individual
patients is, of course, a lot less this side of the pond - although
the expensive cancer drugs are not always provided free by our NHS.

Yeah, I get that. I guess I should have specified, "on this side of the
pond". Over here, without a doubt, decisions are made based on the level of
insurance coverage. I think there are borderline (and sometimes
unnecessary) procedures that are done because they are covered. And
unfortunately, there are treatable people who are left to fade away because
the required treatment isn't covered.
I don't have stats handy to base that on (and won't look 'em up) but I'm
still comfortable making those claims.
