Question is: Will the instrument sound better without the pickups?
Does sound in the bowl get messed up from the wires, batteries and
other pieces? What difference are the 12 vs 13 string sizes going to
make?
Not the right questions. Interior amplification will ruin your stroke.
You become accustomed to the angles not mattering, and of course you
stop finding them. Thus your tone when unamplified goes straight to
hell. daveA
Interesting response from DaveA.
1) Interior amplification will make no difference to your stroke.
Exterior (onstage) amplification may make a difference to your attack.
You have to work it according to the P.A. you are using and the room you
are playing in. It's a subtle business. This is why we have soundchecks
- they're all different.
If you have amplification for the purpose of modifying your sound, of
course there is something in what you say. If you have amplification
only to amplify and not to change your sound in any other way you are
totally wrong.
2) If you're listening to what you are doing, your tone is decided by
you and the instrument, amplified or unamplified.
Here you contradict yourself. Does interior amplification change your
playing or doesn't it? Trust me, over time it does.
3) The sound doesen't get messed up by wires and batteries.
This is the issue of the OP, but, again, it is the wrong question,
because in the long run it doesn't matter.
4) Yes, the instument will sound better if you ditch the pickups, spend
£3000 on P.A. and a couple of Neumann mikes and leave out the onboard
electronics altogether. Then you have to learn how to sing and keep the
guitar near the mic at the same time.
Not easy, is it?
No it's not, but for a concert guitarist, it is essential, because the
interior amplification will cause him to change his stroke, IOW the way
he plays, to the point where he won't sound good without it. daveA
