I wonder if we (Americans) are the same people....
They were kids.

They still are. Every time I go to the airport these days it seems I
see a boy in a uniform. It breaks my heart.
Take care,
Lisa
My youngest son just finished basic at Fort Jackson a few weeks ago. He's in
Tuscon until February, at intelligence school. My wife and I went to Fort
Jackson for his graduation from boot. A very emotional experience for me.
Seeing him in uniform for the first time, watching him in formation,
listening while he spoke with an officer, seeing him stop and come to
attention when the flag was lowered. He left home my baby boy, and the next
time I saw him he was a young soldier. I'm proud to be his dad.

I went through the same, Greg. With an Army son and one daughter; and
one Navy daughter. The girls married professional military guys who
have retired from the military. They saw the world and learned many
things about many different people.
This is a volunteer military. It did them a world of good and they
know it.
I have tried hard to teach young people that military service should
not be considered their last resort but their first opportunity.
