Henry Cow, Slapp Happy, Gong, Ivor Cutler, Mike Olfield, Tom Newman, anyone know if it was ever re-released on CD?
Tangerine Dream, etc. Does
Doubt it - samplers are very rarely re-issued, basically because they
are very much of their time and were just low-priced promos for the
individual albums featured. I would think that you'd find the likes of
Gong, Mike Oldfield and T Dream re-issued on CD, but Henry Cow, Slapp
Happy & Ivor Cutler et al were very obscure even then, so may be
difficult if not impossible to find on CD.
You know it was a flash of (re)interest in Ivor Cutler that started this
recent round of vinyl-cd madness. I found "Velvet Donkey" on CD and it is
on it's way. I think the big reason for wanting *that* recording on cd is
for the "flash-backed-ness" of *those* tunes in *that* order. (grin)
Several years ago I even found Tom Newman on CD. Most of the Henry Cow has
been re-issued. Now there was a band...

I had a similar problem with a sampler I had on cassette called
'Mutant Disco', issued by Ze Records, with early stuff from the likes
of Kid Creole, Was Not Was, Material, etc. The Kid Creole track was
the only one I could find on I-Tunes/Napster.
I've still got my vinyl copy of "The Rock Machine Turns You On", the
60s CBS sampler, with its liner notes proclaiming "The Rock Machine
isn't a wind-you-up, it's a grind-you-up..." or some such hippy
nonsense. Some great tracks, though...
