Re: New Strings or Old; Any Preference?

THEY'RE TALKIN' ABOUT CHANGIN' STRINGS, MIKE. I'D TALK LOUDER BUT THE
PROGRAM WON'T LET ME CHANGE THE FONT SIZE.

CAN YE HEAR ME NOW?

Which do you prefer and why?

new, but after they have "set" in tune.

the brightness factor does it for me.

Good point not raised yet - old, and maybe not even very old - strings
will not be as uniform as new, and they will almost certainly tune with
less precision. There must be a "sweet spot" here too, but it'd be
harder
to discern that with brilliance. Brand new will set, perhaps after a day
or even a couple of hours of playing they'll be "flexed" to uniformity,
being out of the package and under tension for the first time. After
this
sweet spot, a perfect chord on fret 3 will be imperfect on higher frets.

Thank goodness my hearing isn't that good.

There's not much wrong with it, but it's not good enough to hear what you
are talking about.
