I reckon I only get to play about 3 hours a week (and it probably
shows in my playing, hem hem...)

How much time are you guys putting in?

I'm at a point where if I've got a gig or something I can play myself
in in a fairly short time, but it's a long time since I actually sat
down and tried to develop my skills (such as I have).

How much woodshedding is actually going on amongst you lot?

Pete

I don't believe in practicing. I feel that the music should be
spontaneous and natural. The first performance should also be the
first time yall look at the music or see the words in print. It's
okay to have heard the song by others first but only play a song once
and first time in front of as many people as possible. Do not worry
about the key between instrument and voice.... do not bother with
tempo... play, enjoy and rejoice in the grand cacophony of sound.

Aha, that explains a lot.

I can hear you from here.

Tom also doesn't believe in tuning, or changing strings. Put it all
together and you begin to get the picture. <g>

I quietly try to maneuver so that I can sit next to Tom and follow him
in song circles, but the circles expand and the next thing I know, I
am following Robert Harding, Al Sato, and Kent Fishburn...fortunately
for me, I can play nothing in their collective styles.

I would rather sit next to Tom.

Ken

I also notice that ye try to sit down wind or under a ceiling fan.

See ye next week, Ken. I may even change strings on a guitar or mandolin
this weekend but probably not one that I'll bring to D/FW Gathering.
