Re: Guitar shipping

I shipped out 2 guitars via UPS as recently as last month. I have
never had a problem in the 4-5 years that I have shipped and received
guitars. I probably ship/receive 4-5 guitars per year. Insured both
for $2000, and paid about $35 each.

I get guitar boxes from my local store for free because I am a good
customer. I always double box using a combo of a couple of other
boxes, plus plenty of packing materials (whatever is handy). I should
get one in today via UPS. Got one in last month from UPS, not problems
at all. I know there are nightmare stories out there, but an
appropriately (read bombproof) packed and labeled "fragile" box should
fair well.

As Larry points out, it's all in your personal experiences. UPS
temporarily lost a guitar I had shipped to a very well known client.
I was shipping his guitar back after a fret job and needed to get
it to him before he left for an international tour. UPS lost the guitar

for 18 days and this musician had to use another guitar for this
tour. UPS refunded my shipping charges....but they could nothing
for the lost exposure from this artist playing one of my guitars
thoughout his tour.

I will be taking two guitars today to the USPS. One is a $24,000.00
replica of a 1930 Martin OM-45 made with jaw-dropping old growth
quartersawn Brazilian rosewood. The other is a $7200.00 custom C
model.....that's more than $30,000.00 worth of instruments in the
hands of a shipping company. It's nerve wracking anytime you place
that much trust with your shipper and currently, the USPS has my trust.
