Do you have a guitar abuse story with happy outcome?

In 1957 I bought a guitar made by Hetcho In, that large
company in Mexico. The outcome wasn't happy, but it was
kinda funny. About a year later I restrung it with some
newer (not new) strings, and as I was bringing it up to
pitch, I noticed that the more I tightened the strings,
the *lower* the pitch went. Now that's just not right. I
looked at it more closely and the neck angle had increased
dramaticaly. That's not right, either. I tightened a few
strings a little more and heard a creaking sound. Well,
maybe I can put the neck angle back where it belongs. I
laid the guitar face down on the tile floor and thought
maybe if I apply some pressure with my foot just behind
the neck, It'll pop back into place.....(VERY loud sound)
......Uh... never buy a guitar for $12.00 from a pawn shop
on S. Main in Fort Worth.
