The Flying With Guitars Question has just become meaningless as far as
us in the UK are concerned. No more persuading the gate agent to let you
carry it on... not now, not for the next while, maybe not ever again.

And now they're requiring you to check in laptops. Ouch. A nice new
MacBook, left to the tender mercies of the baggage handlers? I think I
may just go online and see how much it would be to Fedex/UPS/DHL the
thing separately...

I can see that travelling over to NYC next week is going to be a real
treat :-(

I have read that they have removed the last thing that made flying
even tolerable. They are not permitting books.

No books!?

Ken

wtf??

Maybe a fellow can tear the pages out, roll up the pages real tight,
make a point, spread feces on it and have a dangerous weapon. They do
this in prisons.

I read this no-book-thing in the paper and the guy said it really made
the flight boring. I was delayed once six hours coming out of Gatwick
for the US but fortunately, Bettie and I had a bunch of books. We
enjoyed the time to read. Others (illiterates?) just grumbled and
twisted and acted ugly.

Since they don't serve food (disregarding peanuts) on so many of the
flights, and there is a dehydration problem on long flights...it seems
the no foods and fluids is really going to make the flights bad, but
then...airline travel has been no fun for me for a long time.

Yet, I am happy to recall being on a jet, being served a choice of
entree and wine, eating with silver, off china, and with cloth napkins
and place mats. It was more fun to fly then than ride the bus...and
people "dressed up" for the air flights. <g> But that was a long
time ago in a place far, far away.

Ken...I don't care how much gas costs...I'll drive everywhere I can.
