If GWB and his ilk are the cure, then from where I sit, it is worse
than the disease.
Anybody who believes that America's position in the world is better for
the current administration's actions, that you are safer, and that a
full-out war to wipe out Islam is going to make the country -- or the
world -- a better place is, as Bogart said in Casablanca, misinformed.
Sure, if somebody attacks you, you are allowed to stomp on him; but
thinking that stomping on a religious terrorist is going to stop more
of them popping up is a fool's game.
Going into the Middle East to create "democracy" is a bigger fool's
errand. Ask the Britsh or the Russians how well it worked for them. The
Sunni and Shiite and Kurds have been at each others' throats for
thousands of years and the only way a new shurf in town is going to
keep that from happening is with more guns than we could possibly send.
History didn't start last Thursday.
That a liberal cannot be a patriot who loves his country as much as a
conservative is, not to put too fine a point on it, horseshit.
