The guitar I'm likely to purchase will not come with a pickup, so I need
to buy one. I'm not a fan of piezo pickups, never ever liked them, so
I' thinking about something like the i-beam or PUTW #27. I know many of
you have experiences with them, so please tell me what you like better
about one or the other.

My playing style is a lot of fingerpicking, but also hard strumming...
I'm pretty heavy handed when I'm strumming. I don't use a pick, just my
fingers (both fingerpicking and strumming).

Comments appreciated, thanks!

Polymer film, as I understand it, IS a piezo-electric technology.

BTW, I have installed a K&K Pure Western and a pure western mini in two
of my guitars, and I heartily recommend them. In both cases they are
installed without preamps.

I chose the K&K pickups after reading a post last year on this NG that
described how the the OP installed the pickup, connected the guitar to
an amp and turned it on. His initial reaction was, "There's something
wrong - the guitar doesn't sound any different!" Then he realized it
did sound louder. Not different, just louder. So I installed one in my
guitar, and had the same experience--at first I thought it wasn't
working. And I was playing the guitar through a Marshall VS65R. When I
turned up the amp, it was definitely louder, but it still sounded like
my guitar.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Steve - I've had my eye on the slope shouldered Epiphone Masterbilts (spruce
top/mahogony back and side) and was considering the K&K's and PUTW's should
I buy one without on board electronics. In fact, I almost bought a used one
last week, but the binding was damaged and it would have likely cost me the
same as new down the road. Either way, new or used, patience will pay of
down the road. Thanks for the comments.

about)
