Spruce tops are quite a bit stiffer and stronger than cedar, so they are
seldom left thicker, particularly on flamencos. A wooden golpeador of any
thickness likely to be effective for the job would definitely dampen sound
to some extent.

Actually in this particular case, I am looking at a spruce top, so quite
a bit thicker than cedar. Would a very thin of wood be enough to damp
spruce ?
