This past weekend was a milestone for me. I had my first (and most likely
last) paying gig. I use the term gig very loosely here you see because I
played at the winery where my wife works on weekends and I played for a
few bottles of wine!
Becky Hunt, and two other local players and I shared the ?duties? and we
played Saturday and Sunday afternoons. It must have been ok since they
sold more wine than ever before on Sunday! I think our music must have
driven them to drink.
We needed no amplification as the winery had some very nice acoustics. The
tasting room had a very high ceiling, and tile floors. We seemed to
project pretty well with just the guitars, mandolin and hammered dulcimer.
I gained a better appreciation for those of you that are professional
musicians. It was not easy even though I played some pretty simple stuff
that I knew pretty well. Even so, I was mentally and physical exhausted
by Sunday evening. I should have paced myself and taken more breaks. My
hands were really tired. I had a hard time holding the pick for the
mandolin by Sunday afternoon.
Just wanted to share my experience with the group.

Good for you, Bob!
It becomes addictive.
One of the places I play quite often is a local American Legion and I've
offered to play there for drinks and tips because I'm a member there of the
Sons of the American Legion.
The manager told me he's seen me drink, so he'd rather pay me and give me a
few beers than give me free rein on drinks for a night...
I can see his point.
