My Martin is 34 years old, and it has never had a button installed on the
back of the neck. Although I realize I could probably add one, I just
haven't wanted to mess with it. I'm afraid it will damage the guitar
somehow. I always used the nylon strings that come with a guitar strap to
tie the strap over the headstock just above the nut. However.... two years
ago I discovered the Martin "button straps." They are not expensive...
probably around $5.00 if I remember correctly... and this is a much better
solution because you don't have those annoying nylon strings tangling up in
the guitar strings or becoming untied and getting in the way. So... if you
can't add (or don't want to add) a button to the guitar, the Martin button
straps are a great alternative. I have one on each of my three guitars.
(They were so inexpensive I even splurged for my two cheapie guitars.)
