WAV is uncompressed. MP3 is compressed. When you burn to a CD, both
file types get converted ti a CD specific format, but the MP3 will be
uncompressed and then convertted. It slightly alters the sonic
quality of the MP3. If you plan to burn to a CD, then WAV is a better
sonic choice. (Good results can still be had from the MP3 format, but
they just aren't as sonically "pure" as a WAV file.) And of course,
if you are running a MAC, then use the AIFF format.
By the way, there is a huge difference in WAV and MP3 files, besides
the file size. The compression format of MP3 literally "tosses out"
sound that is not "heard" and only keeps the fundamental tones/sounds.
(That isn't the correct technical terms, but it is a "lossy" format,
meaning it looses some of the sounds, while trying to fool the ears
into believing they are hearing ALL of the sounds.)
