On the advice of this group, I've just downloaded Firefox (8.7kb for a Mac
G4), but the computer doesn't know how to open it.

Guess I'll figure it out eventually.

Mac OS X

Double click the Firefox 1.0.dmg.gz Disk Image to uncompress and mount
it. Your browser may have already done this for you. Double click the
Firefox Disk Image to open it in Finder and drag the Firefox
application onto your hard disk. Do not double click the icon in the
disk image! Be sure to drag the Firefox application out of the disk
image and onto your Hard Disk before running it. Drag the icon to your
Dock if you want it to appear there.

George.

All that's appeared is an icon named "download.mozilla.org", and when I
try to open that, I get a message that says

Couldn't open the file "download.mozilla.org" because it is not a file
that Quicktime understands.

???

Of course I'm a real trog about computers.

I just did it, Mike and I first got a message saying this was a file that the computer didn't know what to do with. One of the options was "save to disk". I did that.

I got a file "Firefox 1.0.6.dmg" on the desktop. I double clicked that and it showed a virtual disk on the desktop entitled, "Firefox". Inside is one thing, a file called "Firefox". That's it. Just drag it to your hard drive applications folder and open it from there.

I'm using an old G4 desktop running 10.3.9.
