The problems for the gulf coast AFAICT are going to be around for at least
as long as the S.E. Asia Tsunami rebuilding (even though that death toll was
many many time higher). That rebuilding is only just beginning in some
areas now. There is also still much Tsunami fundraising going on 9 months
after the event.

Mike is right. The interest level in the project needs to grow a bit too.
I'm just thinking out loud here... Mike and others here know a great deal
more than me on all of this. I'm thinking, let's do something in the way of
a amateur recording project and why not see if it can be turned into
something else?

The idea of a website to host playable or downloadable music and donations
seems a really good one too. Is that going to work? Can it be made to work?

Well I didn't throw the Katrina music project into the mix just for effect.
I would also contribute some music on this. But I'm intending to help with
it myself if it's a runner. Trouble is though I'm of limited help in the
I.T. and/or large file handing or recording side.

I do not have a clue either about the hosting side, but I believe I do have
a website space allocation totally unused at present and I have a broadband
connection and - AFAIK - unlimited upload and download.

I'll need to check on this and the size of the Demon server allocation -
IIRC it's 20Mb etc. I don't know I need to check. It's small though and
maybe of no use for many music files - but could be useful as an info site.
I've no idea whether this space is of use (pathetic isn't it) Is it any use?
no I don't, not a damned thing. About time I learned.

What I can help with are the admin/overseeing, posting, collating, managing,
encouraging, cheerleading, writing and designing sides etc. All things I'm
qualified to do.

Personally I think maybe the theme should be a celebration of the diverse
music of the American gulf coast, that opens it up to many styles either
side of N.O. N.O. itself is getting a lot of media attention, but N.O. -
and it's musical traditions and strong visual images also helps give the
whole thing more of a strong identity world wide.

Creatively it's so wide open - such great music and SO MUCH of it, I
wouldn't know where to start.

Perhaps if this is for a specifically for Katrina charities then there might
be some relaxing or dispensations on the part of local writers and musicians
regarding copyright usage fees but even if not we might look at it. Then
there's the whole area of new song writing for those clever enough to do
that.

Flicking around the various news sites today, I read somewhere that the
Katrina major damage area is bigger than the entire UK. That helped put it
into better perspective for me and probably for us Brits in general.
