there are two ways to adjust string height
one is to lower the bridge
the other is to raise the fingerboard
I hope some smart guy comes in and corrects the mistakes I am aout to
make
a top needs a certain amo0unt on tension from the string to give best
sound
maximum tension would be created with the strings 90 degrees offset from
the top
of course that is not practical
the bridge height determines the angle at which the strings enter the top
nof the guitar from
more height , more vertical pull, better tone
less height more horizontal pull less tone
the height of the bridge should be set to match the needed "break angle"
THE ANGLE AT WHICH THE STRINGS TURN DOWNWARD TWADS THE TOP
once this angle is set then the finger board(neck ) should be brought up
to match this "basically non adjustable ) height
so the action , IMO, is set by the position of the neck not the height of
the bridge
shaving the bridge down will lower your action, but at the exese of break
angle, feel and tone
PLEASE some luthier help me
I am way out of my element here
Thanks
George
