Re: SATB Choral Arrangements For Sale

I'm looking at the rec.music.makers.choral list and what I see are two email addresses in Marc's post.
The first is "marc....@xxxxxxxxx, the second "r...@xxxxxxx", I am taking it that some portion of these email addresses is missing and has been replaced by the "...". Perhaps my unfamiliarity with lists is showing.

You appear to be reading this newsgroup on some kind
of web-based portal (Google?) Google munges the email
addresses to cut down on spam.

The Usenet newsgroups (of which this is just one of over
10,000) have been around long before web pages and the
internet. Portals like Google are convienent ways to access Usenet newsgroups, but not the best way. If you were reading this newsgroup directly on a newsreader (I use Outlook Express), you would see the original messages without any modification.

The Google web portal (groups.google.com) munges
the addresses, but I believe the real ones are availble by
some method. That is why I don't use Google for posting,
because I can't protect my email address. For example, your complete email address is shown in your message.
You can expect the amount of spam you receive to
increase since you have now revealed your address in
public. If you're lucky, maybe Yahoo can filter most of
it.

The reason people disguise their email addresses is because spammers automatically harvest adresses to add to their loathsome lists.

Dunno if it is worth harvesting an email list from this
newsgroup (rec.music.makers.choral) since it is nearly
dead now. If you want to reach choral people, you must
go over to the Choralnet website. Note that they have a
specific "Composers and Publishers Forum"and one for
"Repertoire". I think they will allow a simple announcement message to go out to the general mailing lists once per
year according to the rules posted at...
http://choralnet.org/lists/choralist.shtml But these lists appear to have a pretty well-focused
audience, so it is likely worth jumping through all the
hoops to gain access.
