Re: Tho X Bui, Alan Carruth and David Hajicek....French Polish Update.....

Mark:

I got distracted by making a bookbox for my grandson. I was trying a
different finishing techniques (transparent stain with waterborne finish),
which turned out to be a LOT harder than I expected to get the results I
wanted.

I will give the papers a try in the next few days. Thanks for the paper.

I agree on the padded shellac method vs classic FP. It hardens MUCH faster
and is a faster build. The padding technique is different than FP (which is
slightly more forgiving). But if the pad has the right amount of shellac
and is already moving before you touch down, it works fine. Forget the
figure 8 stuff. Just go fast in a straight line and vary the angle for
uniform coverage.

Hey, you French Polishers!

Holiday greetings to you guys, and thanks again for you (several weeks
ago) input on French Polishing.

Just thought I'd offer an update on my French Polishing journey....the
latest is, I going to abandon my attempts to learn F.P. for now, and
just continue to perfect my shellac padding method.

I found that adding oil, or for that matter, padding in figure eights
or circles, tended to complicate and muddy up the works, so for now,
just gonna stick with the technique with which I'm comfortable, and
with which I can achieve predictable results!

Thanks again you guys, for your earlier input.

....Mark

PS...David, did you try out those papers?
