On the narrower issue of usage within this forum, I fully agree with
you- one must use the form as in the song. To me personally, the word
has always been "zindagi", that's the way i have always said it, and
have heard it in songs. And I hope that all those who have read this
long thread will henceforth, correctly transcribe not just zindagi but
all those other words which were listed out as film titles in the
original post by Asif.

Just one other point in reference to what Naseer saab said- if I
referred to zindagi as a foreign word  it was more with reference to
"foreign" as being from a different language, rather than any
geographical reference. It would be like saying Tamil and Hindi are
foreign languages to each other. I fully appreciate that Urdu is as
much an Indian language as any of the others.
