Dr.Mandar says...

(On a lighter note and also out of genuine curiosity, do google ads
pay up that significant amount?:) In spite of having a huge number of
page views on my other two sites and having a google ad sense account
that combines their ad incomes, I have still to reach the USD 50/-
limit in last three years and hence haven't yet got a cheque from
them. This particular miniscule nature of the google ad revenue (in my
own experience) made me treat them trivially and never let me have a
clue that they indeed can be so potent moneymaking tools to make
others feel that there is some wrongdoing.

Based on the information you have provided, I am confused as to why you were
looking for Google to help you defray the costs of running the site if they pay
a pittance?  Would it not be simply more profitable to have a paid membership
site? Note: I am not suggesting you should do that, since I think it would be
morally wrong if not illegal. However there are plenty of sites related to news,
sports etc, that do source material from other sites, collect and organize the
material and then present it to the viewer in a better format and charge them to
read it. If you can pull that off, more power to you.

now i understand exactly what you folks (ketan and the professor) were
objecting to - this is similar to what i believe happened to cricinfo
which started as a non-for-profit or some such - with volunteers
running the site, folks pitching in for a server yada yada. look where
it is now!

also, i was unaware that dr. mandar was re-publishing stuff back on
youtube. i don't think that that is really right.

ideally, it would have been really nice if the real copyright holders
upload videos onto their own websites like rajshri appears to be
doing. ideally too, it would be nice if they would upload all songs in
a movie, movie by movie, and not pick and choose. then, they could
also augment their income stream with ads all around the video - if
they want - and then even, maybe, pay the artistes involved!!

will that happen? well, one can only hope.
