This ending was the original and Sippy was requested to change it as
police are always encouraged to capture the criminal alive and it was
thought "not to be in good taste". Hence the entire ending was re-
shot with Gabbar being captured alive. This info. is as per Anupama
Chopra's book (citing from memory), will have to locate the exact
pages though.
No matter what ending, I thoroughly enjoy this movie each time I watch
it (and have I lost count of it).
There are also quite a few dialogues changed. I have 2 DVD's, one
with this ending as per the video link and other released in cinema
and both DVD's have a few dialogues different, one that quickly comes
to mind is when Basanti goes to break mangoes and Jai says "James Bond
ke pote hain." The other dialogue in this scene is "Tatya Tope ke
pote hain". I can relate to James Bond, but not Tatya Tope (can
someone shed light).
Seems like they don't teach much of Indian history anymore in schools.
I don't know how old are you - but it is a sad commentry on education
system.
Anyway, yiu can read about him athttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatya_Tope.

Thanks Abhay for the pointer towards Tatya Tope.
As regards your post, I'll ignore your sarcasm (if any) and just take
the needed matter for my education. Wonder why people don't just
restrict to the post in question - is it because they want to showcase
their knowledge.
Regards,
Ninad.
Unfortunately yes. For a casual visitor, it looks like as if people
are here to pounce
upon others at the earliest opportunity. Friendliness, generally seen
everywhere in
other groups is a rarity here.
On the whole, the discussions lack mature respect among members. I
feel really
sad about it.

And generalizing about all the members of a group based on posts from
a handful of them is a sign of mature respect?
I'm amazed to see that not only are you unashamed about the fact that
you are more acquainted with a foreign fictional character than your
own national martyr, but, you are expecting to be congratulated on
your display of ignorance, and, going on to accuse Abhay and RMIM-ers
in general of being 'knowledge-show-offs' and 'lacking mature
respect'!

Touche Touche. And where did I say "congratulate me". That's your
assumption. His post was a reply to mine and evidently directed at
the poster, hence I replied the way I did. No I am not ashamed of my
ignorance. Are you indicating you know "everything". A little
courtesy is all that was needed for a not so frequent RMIM-er. A
reply from Abhay (ji) to my post would have sufficed if he didn't
direct the comment at me. His not replying (probably) is an
indication that he directed his comments towards me. Now it doesn't
matter.
And for those criticising (or supporting) the education system, as ex
Prez APJ says, "ask not what the country can do for you, rather what
can you do for the country". So will those engaging in the criticism
please do something on improving the education system. I guess Abhay
(ji) was half there with the wiki link.
Yes I do visit and read posts of interest to me and I enjoy some posts
which shed light on issues that I do not know or unaware of.
Regards and Happy Dassera (in advance).
Ninad.
