But let us consider for a moment the economics of your proposal.
Let us assume that you have some issues (say, 50 in number) of
this magazine alone ("Film India") and you offer them on eBay.
It has to be recognized that the market for this magazine is very
very limited. There aren't too many people (apart from our News -
group) that may be interested in music and films of that era when
this magazine flourished. So how much would you expect to collect
per issue ? Maybe one pound (if that) ? So your complete
collection would fetch you, say, 50 or 60 Pounds. That kind of
money may be sufficient for a couple of dinners/movies. Maybe
you can watch a Wimbledon match (from earlier rounds only !).

Maybe there is an alternate available. You can provide details of
the magazines you wish to sell (dates etc.) and place a target
price for the entire set (within a reasonable range). And then
perhaps members of our NG can make individual contributions to
add up to that figure and allow the set as a whole to be placed in
the custody of someone like Prof. Surjit Singh. This way, their
contents can be posted on the NG from time to time. This is only
a suggestion and I do not presume any authority to speak on behalf
of other RMIMers.
Afzal saahib,
While I do think that the magazines might fetch considerably
more than £1 if auctioned on eBay and noticed by the right
bidders, that's not what I wanted to say in this post!
What I wanted to say is that I, for one, would wholeheartedly
support the alternative you have proposed above -- RMIMers
pooling money to acquire the collection. If RMIM decides to
go this route, I'll happily contribute my share to the acquisition
of Mr. Jamal Akbar's collection.
It seems to me that Dr. Singh would be one of the best persons
to vouchsafe such an acquisition to, but RMIMers could also
discuss other options -- e.g., if the entire collection could be
digitally copied (microfilm or microfiche, or even just simply
good quality jpegs!), the whole thing could be made available
(via Dr. Singh's website) to the entire world, as it were. And
then, to widen the reach even more, the original magazines
could be donated to a library "network" such as that of the
University of California (or another), which can appreciate
the potential value of the donation and properly preserve
the magazines.
